Inspiration

I was inspired by my buddy AJ Ke to write a blog post today. His was very clever and genuine, but it was also not too long. I always struggle with the idea of spending too much time on a post or not wanting to start because of my perception that it will take a long time. I even think I have blogged about it before. Either way, I am going to give it a try.

This weekend some of my friends got into a debate about all kinds of topics, mostly politics, and rather than worry about all of these things that I perceive to be out of my control (whether they are or aren’t is a different story), it really just made me think about all the things in our lives that we should be thankful for. First and foremost, we should be thankful that we live in a society where we can openly have these debates about politics without fear of repercussions. We should be thankful that our houses and everything we own wasn’t swept away or burned to the ground like the incomprehensible amount of people that have been victims of the incredible natural disasters in China, Russia, and Pakistan in the past few months. I am so thankful that I don’t have to wonder where I am going to sleep each night, and I know I have a bed in a safe home waiting for me. I could go on for days about all of the things that I have to be thankful for, because I am so incredibly lucky, but instead, I want you to be conscious of the things around you. Conscious of the things that are ok in your life, and be thankful. Be positive. Take a minute to know that things will be ok and that you too are lucky.

  1. You make being positive look easy. Is it learned, or born?

    • I am not sure. I think it is very similar to the question of nature vs. nurture… one may play a larger role than the other, but you will never really be able to clearly define the difference, and they both influence one another.

I can say that I have never had to deal with any major difficult situations or severe hardships in my life, so I think that definitely a big part of it.

  2. hey! thanks for the shout out lol. i completely agree with your post. it’s crazy that 20% of the world owns 80% of the world’s wealth and resources, and we happen to be part of that minorty that doesn’t struggle daily for basic ammenities. it’s hard to consider sometimes when you get caught up in your own life.

but on the flipside, there’s this quote i really love from perks of being a wallflower, “I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won’t tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn’t change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn’t really change the fact that you have what you have.”

life is about perspective. and while some live in objectively worse conditions, we all have our problems.

anyway, i hope you blog more!
